For one reason or another, it just doesn't seem to stick. I'm not exactly sure why, but I think it may simply have to do with the nature of meeting strangers online. From my life experiences, friends are usually the by-product of other life situations such as jobs or a class. So to try to make friends head on may be too much pressure. There's too much pressure to spend time together, for the sake of spending time together... if that makes any sense. In a job or environment, you end up spending time together naturally because you are both there. But, in this case, you're seeking it out directly. That carries with it some added pressure that normally would not exist in your every day scenario. I think my mistake was to meet people right from the beginning. My ultimate goal was, and still is, to find a platonic friend to share activities with. I'm looking for real life friends. But, I think I was being too eager. Maybe the better approach is to get to know someone through text or for a while. Perhaps that will allow some rapport to be built. I just don't want spend a lot of time emailing back and forth for it all to just fade away. But, there has to be a happy medium in there somewhere. I'm not from LA so my style is not so much in sync with the LA culture. I'm not a guy, and I'm laid back. Maybe I can find someone out there that is on a similar frequency to me. Ideally, I just want a cool female friend that I can hang out with. In the beginning, I hope to find someone that I can just hang with, some food, a beer, or maybe some pastries and coffee. If we can gel, then maybe do some more interesting stuff like going to the getty, hang at the beach, see a movie, bike ride, etc. But, one step at a time. I am not looking for this to be a date, or to turn into anything romantic. This means that everything will be dutch, and nothing expected of one another. And, even though this is strictly platonic, please nobody with a boyfriend or husband. I've tried this, and it simply does not work. I'm Asian, 40, and single. I'm not , but I do believe in karma and lean toward Eastern philosophy such as zen. I like to talk about life, philosophy, beliefs, and the human condition. But, I'm not into politics at all. I love to watch deep that a lot of people find to be terribly boring. At the moment, I'm hoping to see Interstellar. I'm not into sports for the most part, however I do like to workout, play tennis, and snowboard when I can. I don't watch too much TV these days, so I'm starting to feel out of the loop.
